New Solid Fuels for RDEs

Professors Terrence Meyer and Steven Son are working within the AFRL Regional Network's Midwest Hub to improve the stability and efficiency of rotating detonation engines by developing and evaluating new solid fuels that can operate reliably within this environment. This research combines the expertise of Prof. Son in the development of novel propellants, as well as Prof. Meyer's expertise in laser-based diagnostics of the solid fuel products and detonative combustion process. The work, which includes collaborators at the AFRL and Spectral Energies, LLC, aims to scale up production of the solid fuel and integration with an RDE under a Small Business Technology Transfer program.
